NG Yip-kwan and Traya Show Up at the Kick-off Ceremony
Participating in Green Building Exploration Activities
Calling Everyone to Race towards Carbon Neutrality
 

Hong Kong, 21 September 2026 – Jointly organised by the Construction Industry Council (CIC) and the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC), the annual flagship public campaign "Hong Kong Green Building Week 2026", which is aimed at promoting green buildings, successfully held its kick-off ceremony on 18 September. With the venue sponsored by Sun Hung Kai Properties, the event was officially launched at the L1 Entrance Arena, Phase 1, New Town Plaza, Sha Tin. It was honoured to have Mr Eddie CHEUNG, Permanent Secretary for Environment and Ecology (Environment) of the HKSAR Government, as Guest of Honour, joined by Ir Prof. Thomas HO On-sing, Chairman of the CIC, and Dr CHEUNG Tin-cheung, Chairman of the HKGBC, to officiate at the ceremony and launch a series of exciting activities. During the Kick-off Ceremony, the “LOOK GREEN! Biz-Green Outfits X Green Workplace Social Media Challenge” Award Presentation Ceremony was also held to recognise participating organisations for their commitment to green office practices. Following the kick-off ceremony, the “LOOK CLOSER! Green Building Fair” public event, held at the same venue, drew an enthusiastic public response, making it a resounding success.
 

The kick-off ceremony gathered government officials and business leaders at L1 Entrance Arena, Phase 1, New Town Plaza to mark the official start of the 14th edition of Hong Kong Green Building Week.

Government and Business Leaders Kick Off Green Building Week with NG Yip-kwan and Traya
Celebrating its 14th anniversary this year, Hong Kong Green Building Week is themed "LOOK! Green Building Trace: Everyone Engaged, Race to Carbon Neutrality". Singer NG Yip-kwan and child star Traya were specially invited at the kick-off ceremony. The event also premiered the "Captain Green Building in space" animation, featuring a live "space-to-earth dialogue" with the audience. The two talents then joined forces with Captain Green Building to execute mission of carbon reduction. The officiating guests were invited to kick off the "Carbon Reduction Device" by pressing the buttons on stage, eliminating the carbon spheres collected at the venue. This symbolised the unified effort of the government, business sector, and community in pooling their strengths to achieve the "carbon neutrality" goal, officially raising the curtain on the campaign.
 

Mr Eddie CHEUNG, Permanent Secretary for Environment and Ecology (Environment), said that the First Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (2026-2030) outlines a vision for building a green and liveable city and advancing green transformation. In promoting “Energy Saving and Green Buildings”, the Government will continue to improve the energy efficiency of buildings and other facilities, enhance the regime of energy efficiency standards for buildings and electrical products, and promote green, energy saving, and carbon reduction retrofits for new and existing buildings. The goal is to reduce the electricity consumption of commercial buildings by 30% to 40% and that of residential buildings by 20% to 30% from the 2015 level by 2050, and to achieve half of the above targets by 2035. Mr CHEUNG expressed his gratitude to the CIC and the HKGBC for their unwavering efforts in promoting green building development. It is believed that with the support of the Government, businesses and the public, green and low-carbon concepts will become increasingly integrated into everyday life.

Dr CHEUNG Tin-cheung, Chairman of the HKGBC, stated, "The ongoing impact of Hong Kong Green Building Week relies heavily on the long-standing support of all sectors. Through this year's campaign, we hope to show the public how green buildings enhance our quality of life, raise awareness of the diverse professions and opportunities within the green building industry, and attract more young talent to join the field. Since the launch of BEAM Plus, over 3,000 projects have been registered, covering more than 9,300 buildings with a total floor area exceeding 100 million square meters. This reflects that green building has become a vital cornerstone for Hong Kong's transition towards a low-carbon, liveable city."

Ir Prof. Thomas HO, Chairman of the CIC, remarked, "Green building nowadays no longer merely about energy conservation. It must also incorporate low-carbon innovation, big data and artificial intelligence. This year, the CIC will host its flagship event, "Construction Innovation Expo", bringing together local and international experts to exchange ideas and promote innovation and sustainable construction. We are delighted to see the public will be able to experience Hong Kong’s green building and low-carbon achievements through Hong Kong Green Building Week 2026. We hope that this series of activities will enable people from all walks of life to discover the ‘footprints’ of green building in our city, and that we can work together towards a carbon-neutral future!"

LOOK GREEN! Biz-Green Dress Day Concluded Successfully
Honouring Carbon-Reduction Creativity with Four Major Awards at the Ceremony
As one of this year's key warm-up programmes, "LOOK GREEN! Biz-Green Dress Day" was successfully held on 2 September. The event is aimed at promoting light, stylish, yet professional business attire, while integrating environmental protection and carbon reduction awareness into daily work environments. On the day of the event, Captain Green Building and Hanson visited the green offices of Hysan Development and Leigh & Orange Limited. Highlight video of the event will be released on HKGBC's social media platforms.

To commend companies and organisations for their efforts in promoting environmental protection and carbon reduction, the organisers held the "LOOK GREEN! Biz-Green Outfits X Green Workplace Social Media Challenge" Award Presentation Ceremony was also held during the kick-off event. The awards, including the "Most Engaged Award", "Most Popular Award", "Biz-Green Style Award" and the newly introduced "The Greenest Creativity Award", were presented to outstanding companies and organisations by honourable guests.

Diverse Activities Drive the Public Discover Green Building Professions
Citizens Actively Participate in Building a Low-carbon Future
After the kick-off ceremony, NG Yip-kwan and Traya visited the "LOOK CLOSER! Green Building Fair" experience zones to participate in various fun missions related to green building professions. The duo also took photos at the special set-up photo booth to create their personalised "Green Building Expert Badge". They praised the interactive experience as fun and rich in educational value, calling on all citizens to challenge themselves and unlock new green building career skills.
 

"LOOK CLOSER! Green Building Fair" was successfully held from 18 to 20 September, attracting nearly 6,500 participants with a bustling atmosphere. In addition to the highly anticipated career experience games and the weekend-exclusive Green Workshops, which allowed citizens to acquire green building knowledge while enjoying hands-on craft activities, the event also featured insightful expert talks. Green Building Young Leaders (GBYLs) and Members of GBYL Alumni shared how various green building professions leverage innovative technologies, efficiently utilise resources, and adopt eco-friendly building materials to create healthy and comfortable built environments through clever designs. The vibrant interactions highlighted the city's robust support for promoting green buildings and a carbon-neutral future.
 

 

Hong Kong Green Building Week 2026 has meticulously planned more than 20 free activities, using refreshing interactive games and immersive experiences to interpret the core values of green buildings in an accessible way. The campaign is aimed to comprehensively inspire the public's observation and determination to practice low-carbon living, uniting green power across the city to run towards the 2050 carbon neutrality vision!
