Environment and Conservation Fund Green Building Education and Capacity Building Programmes - Micro-credential Topical Course (只提供英文版)

Funded by the Environment and Conservation Fund and organised by the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC), this micro-credential topical course series is designed to provide participants with more in-depth continuing education than traditional CPD webinars. It enables practitioners to construct weekend or after-hours study programmes that meet their development needs. Courses will be rolled out at a frequency of about 1-2 courses per month, throughout a period of two years from 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2027. Participants taking 20 or more courses can apply for a skill enhancement certificate from HKGBC, certifying their significant efforts in studying green building.

Micro-credential Topical Course - Applications of Small Unmanned Aircraft (SUA) on Digital Inspection of Green Buildings

Small Unmanned Aircraft (SUA), commonly referred to as drones, provide project and maintenance teams with rapid aerial data, transforming how modern buildings are constructed, maintained, and monitored. By generating highly accurate, real-time spatial data and visual intelligence, SUA enhance safety, cut costs, and drastically reduce fieldwork time across all phases of building development.

In modern green buildings, where features like vertical green walls, green roofs, and rooftop photovoltaic (PV) panels are increasingly common, SUA play a vital role in both regular and post-typhoon inspections. Beyond green features, this technology is highly effective for building envelope thermographic surveys and external drainage or gas pipework inspections.

This course will cover the following topics:

  • Introduction to SUA building inspections
  • Statutory requirements for operating SUA
  • SUA and accessories specifications
  • Advanced technologies: Photogrammetry, Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR), and Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping (SLAM)
  • AI applications in the digital workflow
  • Case Studies

Speaker: Ir Dr Augustus LEE Yuen-fai, Lecturer, Vocational Training Council

Language: English

Target Audience: Those with limited exposure to SUA regulations, digital photogrammetry, and smart building diagnostics, but who wish to broaden their knowledge in green building inspection automation and emerging AI-driven facility maintenance approaches.
