HKGBC "Environment and Conservation Fund Green Building Education and Capacity Building Programmes" Launching Ceremony
On 17 March 2026, funded by the Environment and Conservation Fund (ECF) and organised by the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC) held a launching ceremony for a series of “Environment and Conservation Fund Green Building Education and Capacity Building Programmes”. It marked the full commencement of this comprehensive two-year initiative aimed at providing systematic, inclusive and diversified learning programmes to develop Hong Kong as a regional hub for green building education. The project would also enable capacity building to be enhanced for industry professionals, the younger generation and the community at large, and lay a solid foundation for Hong Kong to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
The ceremony was performed by Dr CHENG Kam-chung, Eric, Chairman of the ECF Committee, joined by Dr CHEUNG Tin-cheung, Chairman of the HKGBC. It brought together representatives from government departments, leaders of the construction industry, education experts and various sectors of the community to witness this important milestone in the development of Hong Kong’s green building education.
The project would run for two years, with the first programmes having begun last September. Since then, a diverse range of pilot activities has been held by the Council to address the learning needs of various groups. These initiatives include Green Building Career Talks for secondary and tertiary students, Open-entry Green Building Foundation Certificate Courses and Green Building Tours for the general public, and Micro-credential Topical Courses tailored for industry practitioners.
Most of these pilot activities have been filmed and uploaded to HKGBC's YouTube Channel, allowing open resource sharing and self-directed learning for all. A thematic video A Day in the Life of Green Building Practitioners would also be launched on the channel, offering authentic insights into green building workplaces and helping young people understand the nature and prospects of such careers.
