[News from HKGBC Patron Member] Chinachem Group Publishes 2020/21 Sustainability Report - Clear Sustainability Targets Set Out to Strengthen Transparency

Chinachem Group (the “Group”) has published its second Sustainability Report (the “Report”), covering year 2020/21. With a view to enhancing transparency and strengthening communications with stakeholders, the Report details the Group's sustainability commitments, management approach and performance, as well as its future sustainability focus areas.

The Group is committed to incorporating sustainability considerations into all of its core businesses and daily operations. Taking the theme of “Harmonising and shepherding our planet’s elements with heart”, the Report shows how the Group has upheld its commitment to sustainable development and built resilience and solidarity during the past two years despite the COVID-19 pandemic and other challenges, underlining its reinvigorated approach to sustainability and liveability.

The Sustainability Report covers the Group’s operations, including its property management subsidiaries and Nina Hospitality, within the reporting period from 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2021. Its scope has been expanded since the previous Report from 29 properties to all properties under full operational control, including the Group’s headquarters office, 38 managed properties, six hotels and three construction sites in Hong Kong.

Setting out the Group’s sustainability framework, the Report documents its efforts to set clear targets in line with its “Triple Bottom Line” vision – a balanced commitment to People, Prosperity and Planet – and the United Nations’ 17 wide-ranging Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with the Group’s material topics and key performance indicators all matched to the SDGs.  It discloses the Group’s sustainability performance and processes in a transparent way and sets out future focus areas.

The Report is prepared in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards, and with reference to the Environmental, Social and Governance Reporting Guide (“ESG Reporting Guide”) of the Rules Governing the Listing of Securities on The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited. For the purpose of enhancing sustainability disclosure, the Group has adopted the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) recommendations as a first step, summarising its climate-related risks with reference to the four core elements of governance, strategy, risk management, metrics and target. The Report has been independently verified by the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency.

The Group will continue to publish sustainability reports on a regular basis in the future to strengthen its communications with stakeholders and help them better understand its policies, commitments, progress and achievements on this front.
