[News from HKGBC Patron Member - Sino Group] Sino Group Harnesses Technology to Build a Greener Community
In a further effort to promote sustainable living and green development, Sino Group has taken a concrete step forward to drive digitalisation in project development while supporting home-grown start-ups in proptech solutions.
Sino Group has deployed Ampd Enertainer, an advanced energy storage system, to power activities on its Yuen Long and West Kowloon sites, and announced plans to power its future sites with the system. Developed by local start-up Ampd Energy, Enertainer provides diesel-free power and Internet of Things (IoT) for holistic reviews of equipment and operational efficiency, enabling better planning and reducing potential disruption on-site. Compared with traditional generators, Enertainer is quieter, reduces carbon emission by 75% and eliminates ‘tailpipe emissions’ including NOx, PM and SO2, improving air quality in areas where development takes place.
In addition to green efforts on new projects, Sino Group is also enhancing its existing buildings. Tsim Sha Tsui Centre, the Group’s headquarters building for the past 40 years, has received Platinum rating in the BEAM Plus Existing Buildings V2.0 Comprehensive Scheme. This has been achieved through investing in existing infrastructure and adopting green building operations.
The Group is harnessing technology to improve energy efficiency of its portfolio. Since September 2019, the Group has been working with local proptech company Negawatt to leverage big data, IoT and artificial intelligence to enhance energy efficiency. Fourteen buildings have installed the smart building solution with an estimated saving in electricity consumption of 2.8 million kWh per annum. Another smart platform, PlantPro, is being piloted at Olympian City 3 and Island Resort Mall; estimated saving in electricity consumption is 400,000 kWh per annum.
Sino Group commenced installation of photovoltaic systems at its properties in 2018, becoming one of the earliest adopters in the industry. It plans to install over 3,000 panels on the rooftops and exteriors across 19 properties and three hotels by 2021; to date, over 2,700 photovoltaic panels have been installed. Projects to explore other renewable energy sources that can work within the built environment in Hong Kong are also underway, such as the Group’s award-winning in-building hydropower system and wind turbines.
