Hong Kong, 4 December 2020 – To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong's green building rating system - BEAM Plus and congratulate on the achievement of certified green buildings this year, the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC) and BEAM Society Limited (BSL) are proud to introduce a series of promotional videos.
In order to raise public awareness about BEAM Plus and Hong Kong's green buildings, 4 episodes of videos, hosted by Ms Karen CHENG, a former journalist, have been produced to explore selected green buildings of interest. Mr CHEUNG Hau-wai, SBS, Chairman of the HKGBC, and Ir Dr Cary CHAN, JP, Executive Director of the HKGBC, were interviewed to talk about the development of BEAM Plus in the past ten years.

The BEAM Plus 10th Anniversary website (http://beamplus10.hkgbc.org.hk) has also been set up to indicate the full list of BEAM Plus certified buildings in 2020, as well as testimonials from project teams. A number of certified projects have further illustrated their green features so that the general public can know more about these green buildings.
This year, over 200 projects have been certified with various Final Assessment ratings and Provisional Platinum ratings under BEAM Plus. They have outperformed the basic assessment standards while some have even adopted innovative designs to reach high sustainability performance.
BEAM Plus is Hong Kong’s leading initiative to offer independent assessments of building sustainability performance in various stages including master planning, design and construction, fitting out, as well as management, operation and maintenance. It consists of four assessment tools, namely New Buildings, Existing Buildings, Interiors and Neighbourhood, covering the whole building life cycle. Under the rating scheme, the buildings are assessed by BSL and certified by the HKGBC.
BEAM Plus has become the most popular green building rating tool in Hong Kong. Up till now, there are more than 1,600 registered BEAM Plus projects, covering a total gross floor area of over 50,000,000 sq. m. The types of BEAM Plus projects are diverse, including residential, commercial, industrial, educational, government, institution and community buildings as well as infrastructure facilities.
