HKGBC Platinum Patron Member Swire Properties has ranked No.1 in the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index for the third consecutive year, in recognition of being the top sustainable development performer in Hong Kong.

“Environment” – Swire Properties is the first property developer in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland to have its Science-Based Targets approved, to drive long-term decarbonisation goals for its global portfolios, that are in line with the Paris Agreement. In order to achieve its carbon- and energy-reduction targets, latest technologies and practices have been adopted, including a cloud-based smart energy management platform and application of artificial intelligence to monitor and optimise energy consumption. Swire Properties also demonstrates their strong commitment to develop green buildings of top-class environmental performance. To date, 100% of projects under development achieved the highest ratings of green building certification and 97% of all existing buildings are certified green buildings.

“Community Involvement and Development” – Swire Properties’ Community Ambassadors have been organising and participating in various charitable programmes in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland to support underprivileged groups affected by COVID-19 and to bring positive change to local neighbourhoods. SEWomen, sponsored by the Swire Properties’ Community Caring Fund, is a new social initiative to empower local Hong Kong women by offering them job opportunities to showcase their talents and expertise. Through their efforts, a total of 30,000 reusable fabric masks has been produced for charity sales and as giveaways.

“Consumer Issues” – The Company’s Green Kitchen Initiative offers detailed technical guidelines to help F&B tenants design, construct and operate more sustainable kitchens. To date, 24 Hong Kong and Chinese mainland tenants have seen benefits, such as reduced energy and water bills, via the scheme. Free energy audits are also offered to office and retail tenants to help analyse energy usage and identify energy saving opportunities. Since this initiative was launched in 2008, up to 9 million kWh of potential annual energy savings have been identified.
