Swire Properties Launches 2024 Sustainability Report - Achieving its Sustainability Vision Six Years Ahead of Plan



 
Swire Properties recently launched its Sustainability Report 2024 and 2024 Highlights, showcasing the Company's successful integration of sustainability across its operations. Key highlights include:

•  Global & Regional Recognitions: Secured the No.1 position in the Dow Jones Best-in-Class World Index 2024 (formerly known as Dow Jones Sustainability World Index), achieving the Company's Sustainable Development 2030 vision of becoming a global leader in sustainability performance in the real estate industry six years ahead. The Company also topped the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index for the 7th consecutive year, maintaining an "AAA" rating.
 

 
•  Remarkable Progress Towards 1.5°C-aligned Science-Based Targets: Achieved a 40% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions from its 2019 baseline. In addition, it recorded a 54% reduction in Scope 3 emissions intensity from tenants’ operations compared to the 2018 baseline, exceeding its 2030 KPI.

•  Sustainable Placemaking & Social Impact Creation: Generated over HK$ 60 million in social value via the Swire Properties Placemaking Academy ("SPPA") since its launch in 2019. This initiative empowers youth by offering them a chance to design, plan and execute the annual year-end community event – the White Christmas Street Fair.
 

 
•  Thriving Tenant-Landlord Partnerships: The Green Performance Pledge (GPP) community continues to expand and received participation from 129 tenants, covering 53% of the occupied lettable floor area across Swire Properties' portfolios in Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland. The rollout of the Green Kitchen Initiative 3.0 and the launch of the Green Retail Partnership initiative set new standards for sustainability in the industry.
 

 
•  Sustainable Finance Growth: The Company has issued green bonds totalling approximately HK$ 6.9 billion, with approximately 70% of bond and loan facilities now financed through green initiatives.

•  Robust Reporting: Swire Properties has published its first integrated Climate and Nature-related Financial Disclosures with reference to Part D: Climate-related Disclosures of the HKEX ESG Code, ISSB IFRS S2 Climate-related Disclosures, and TNFD recommendations.

Hong Kong: Green Building in Action – 2024 Edition is Now Available

 

The Hong Kong Green Building Council has unveiled the latest edition of “Hong Kong: Green Building in Action”, presenting a comprehensive overview of Hong Kong's green building development status in 2024. This new edition showcases the latest data through concise and fascinating infographics, ensuring the information is both accessible and engaging for readers.

To help the public stay informed about emerging trends in the city's sustainable building progress, the report highlights Hong Kong's current green building development, key achievements of BEAM Plus, the Council’s strategic roadmap for steering the industry towards carbon neutrality, the expansion of the green product market, as well as the latest capacity of green building practitioners.
 
As of 31 December 2024, 4,497 buildings had been first certified by BEAM Plus. The total estimated carbon emissions saved by assessed projects in the New Buildings category alone reached 1.45 million tons per year, equivalent to planting 63 million trees – the same amount of carbon emitted by taking 3.16 million round-trip flights from Hong Kong to Tokyo or operating 11,170 double-decker diesel buses for a year! Furthermore, the BEAM Plus certified area per capita in Hong Kong reached over 8.15 m2, an increase of 11% compared to the previous year, while the total area of soft landscaping in certified projects was equivalent to 234 Hong Kong Stadium pitches.

Green Building Award 2025 – Nomination is Open!

 

The biennial Green Building Award 2025 (GBA 2025), co-organised by the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC) and the Professional Green Building Council (PGBC), is now open for online submissions!

Themed “Towards Carbon Neutrality ∙ Excellence in Sustainable Built Environment”, GBA 2025 looks for nominations that showcase excellence in driving for a carbon-neutral built environment. Eligible projects also include those demonstrating a commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the adoption of green financing.

GBA 2025 covers five categories: New Buildings (NB), Existing Buildings (EB), Research & Planning (RP), Building Products & Technologies (BPT), and Green Building Leadership (GBL). All eligible projects and organisations are invited to take the chance to sparkle with the best in the green building industry! Award winners will even have the chance to compete for the WorldGBC Asia Pacific Leadership in Green Building Awards, extending their influence across the Asia Pacific region and beyond.
