Environment and Conservation Fund Green Building Education and Capacity Building Programmes - Micro-credential Topical Course
Funded by the Environment and Conservation Fund and organised by the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC), this micro-credential topical course series is designed to provide participants with more in-depth continuing education than traditional CPD webinars. It enables practitioners to construct weekend or after-hours study programmes that meet their development needs. Courses will be rolled out at a frequency of about 1-2 courses per month, throughout a period of two years from 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2027. Participants taking 20 or more courses can apply for a skill enhancement certificate from HKGBC, certifying their significant efforts in studying green building.
Micro-credential Topical Course - Towards Sustainable Construction: Low-carbon and Circular Approaches
This course introduces how sustainable construction can be planned and delivered through lifecycle thinking, linking environmental assessment, circular construction strategies, and design methods to practical implementation supported by emerging international examples.
This course will cover the following topics:
- Lifecycle framework for buildings: lifecycle stages and modules; embodied versus operational carbon; and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
- Circular construction approaches: preservation, reuse, and recycling
- Design for Disassembly (DfD): core principles and practical strategies
- Sustainable construction pathways in Hong Kong: local opportunities and constraints; low‑carbon materials; the evolution of prefabrication and off‑site construction; and potential business models for reuse
- Recent global case studies (from the past five years)
Speaker: Dr XU Liang-leon, Lecturer, School of Architecture, The Chinese University of Hong Kong
Language: English
Target Audience: Those with limited exposure to lifecycle thinking, embodied carbon, and circular construction strategies, but who wish to broaden their knowledge in sustainable construction practices and emerging low‑carbon design approaches.
Learning Mode: Hybrid (registrants can choose either Physical/Online)
