CPD Webinar - Design for Sustainability, Tung Chung East Business Hub

This webinar is organised by the Hong Kong Green Building Council.
Located in Hong Kong’s Lantau Island, the Tung Chung Business Hub is a state-of-the-art, mixed-use development that combines office, retail and a data centre within a compact site in a residential neighbourhood.
As a transit-oriented development adjacent to the new Tung Chung East MTR station, the project will catalyse Tung Chung and its neighbourhood’s planned extension to the east while serving existing residential developments. Composed of an office tower rising above a multifaceted podium and a data centre tower, every aspect of the design is centred on reinforcing connections with nature and optimising architecture for efficiency as well as performance.
Inspired by the history and culture of Lantau Island’s villages, the retail podium features stacked volumes that echo the vernacular architecture of Tai O fishing village, forming a tiered public space designed for community engagement.
Oriented towards the Tung Chung mountains, the office tower employs an innovative structural system of “Breathing Brace” which helps withstand high wind loads. This efficient design minimises carbon impact by reducing material usage, while enabling open, flexible floor plates with unobstructed mountain views.
Committed to sustainability, the primary elevation of the project, facing south, is shaded with BIPV solar fins that produce on-site energy—covering up to 6.5 percent of the development's energy needs. The project targets BEAM Plus, LEED, and WELL Platinum certifications—meeting the highest standards for environmental responsibility and community wellbeing.
