CPD Event - Technical Visit to Southa MiMEP Workshop
Registration starts at 2:00pm on 27 February 2023 (Monday)
The event is full house now.Limited seats. First come, first served.
This event is organised by the Hong Kong Green Building Council.
Hong Kong is moving forward with the adoption of Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) and Multi-trade Integrated Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MiMEP) in the construction industry. MiMEP is considered a continuity of the recent success of MiC. It refers to the integration of multiple trades of building services components into a single assembly, manufactured in a factory and then transported to the site for connection. While MiC is rather mature in public works projects, MiMEP adopted by MEP contractors independent of the builder is still less popular in Hong Kong.
Southa is one of the major MEP contractors in Hong Kong. To meet the MiMEP needs of certain government contracts, Southa once planned to establish a workshop in the Mainland. The COVID outbreak in 2020 rendered such an arrangement not feasible, so a workshop was established in Sheung Shui instead. Unlike factories of manufacturers that produce and supply standard modules for contractors to install, this workshop manufactures a variety of made-to-order modules across all building services trades, including multi-disciplinary modules. These MiMEP modules are all tailor-designed for use by Southa in her own projects. Participants will be able to see how bespoke modules are designed to overcome multi-party coordination obstacles, especially dimensional issues, and how BIM and DfMA are integrated into the design and production process.
