Environment and Conservation Fund Green Building Education and Capacity Building Programmes - Green Building Tour on Photovoltaic Glazing Applications

Funded by the Environment and Conservation Fund and organised by the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC), this programme enables the general public to hear directly from green building designers or operators, allowing them to gain a deeper insight into the green design concepts and operational strategies of some renowned green buildings.
Programme Highlights:
The application of electricity-generating window glass, commonly known as photovoltaic (PV) glazing, has great potential for reducing building carbon emissions. In a high-rise metropolis like Hong Kong, using windows to generate electricity has the greatest environmental impact because buildings have extensive vertical surfaces but limited roof space. Both public-sector trials and private-sector deployments demonstrate how Hong Kong is advancing this sustainable technology.
This technical visit is divided into two parts. For the first part, we have invited ClearVue Technologies Limited, the Australian supplier to the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department’s (EMSD) 2024 PV glazing trial, to introduce its latest-generation product. This innovative technology successfully generates solar energy directly from the windows without compromising their clarity. During this session, participants will also have a first-hand opportunity to examine physical PV glazing samples.
For the second part, the visit shifts to a site tour at The Bauhinia Hotel & Apartments - Central, which stands as a pioneering example of large-scale PV curtain wall installation in the private sector. In addition to viewing the completed renovation project, participants will hear directly from the project’s E&M consultant, who will share in-depth technical insights regarding the practical implementation and challenges of the PV curtain wall.

Important Notes

- No Show / Cancellation – Cancellation must be made by email to [email protected] with justification on or before 31 July 2026, 12:00noon. Please quote your registration number in the email. Please note that if a registrant does not show up without giving advance notice, this would affect his/her eligibility to participate in future events.
- Please be punctual. Latecomers will NOT be picked up and will NOT be allowed to join the visit.
- The event will be cancelled when the Typhoon Signal No.8 or above, Black Rainstorm Signal or Extreme Conditions is hoisted at 7:00am.
- All participants shall follow the safety rules laid down by the site's responsible person.
- HKGBC will arrange personal accident insurance for participants within the age range of 18-75. Persons outside this range may procure their own insurance if deemed necessary.
- Participants should note that neither HKGBC nor the parties concerned would accept liability in connection with this event.
