From Pledges to Progress: Great Eagle Group’s EcoChampion Journey
Great Eagle Group, in collaboration with the Business Environment Council (BEC), successfully completed the inaugural year of its EcoChampion Pledge programme. Launched in October 2024, this one-year initiative united a community of office and retail tenants across Champion Real Estate Investment Trust’s (Champion REIT) landmark properties—Three Garden Road and Langham Place—and the Group’s headquarters at Great Eagle Centre on a collective path to decarbonisation.
The programme achieved significant, measurable results across three core pillars: Energy Efficiency, Waste Management, and Green Procurement. Key outcomes include:
Engagement: Secured over 30 pledges from tenants and engaged more than 100 participants. Over 85% of attendees found the accompanying workshops and green tour both informative and engaging.
Awareness: 36% of participating tenants organised internal training sessions to further elevate staff awareness of sustainable practices.
Energy Performance: Achieved an overall 3% reduction in electricity use intensity across the portfolio. Individual participating tenants who shared data demonstrated significant reductions, with the highest reaching 19% (comparing the programme period against a 2023 baseline). Notably, over 70% of participants also committed to setting formal energy reduction targets.
Waste Diversion: Recorded a more than 40% increase in paper/plastic recycling and an over 70% increase in metal recycling among participating Champion REIT tenants at Three Garden Road and Langham Place versus the prior year.
Sustainable Procurement: Participating tenants at Three Garden Road and Langham Place achieved a 40% increase in total green expenditure and a 30% increase in green-certified items procured (comparing the programme period against a 2023 baseline). The programme also saw the planned procurement of over 7,000 green-certified items across tenant operations.
Circular Economy: The initiative inspired tangible circular action, including an F&B tenant joining Great Eagle Group’s Oyster Shell Upcycling Programme following a site visit.
Having established a strong foundation, Great Eagle Group is now building on this powerful momentum. The programme will continue to evolve and expand in the coming year, driving further progress in the Group’s sustainability journey alongside its valued tenant community.
