SHKP’s ICC Accomplishes Another Milestone in Green Building Certifications

Mr KW LO (right), Executive Director of Sun Hung Kai Real Estate Agency receives the LEED 5.0 Platinum certification (Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance) awarded to ICC from Ms Jing WANG, Vice President of the USGBC for North Asia.
Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) is dedicated to enhancing the sustainability performance of its buildings through retrofitting, upgrades, and innovation. To this end, following its initial success in acquiring Hong Kong’s first-ever Platinum certificate in BEAM Plus in 2017, the International Commerce Centre (ICC) recently has further distinguished itself by becoming the first building in Asia to achieve Platinum certification under the latest Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) v5.0 Operations and Maintenance: Existing Buildings by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). ICC also achieved the highest score of 91 among seven certified buildings worldwide, highlighting SHKP’s commitment to sustainable building practices and property management excellence.
Adding to the BEAM Plus Platinum certificate, ICC also earned the HKGBC’s Zero-Carbon-Ready Building Certification in 2024 with a “Super Low” rating. Building on its longstanding management approach of Intelligence, Collaboration, and Continuity, ICC implemented an Extended Reality Facility Management system in its operations. The system utilises technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things, Digital Twin and big data analytics. This intelligent management system monitors and controls the operation and energy consumption of various facilities and equipment. In 2024, ICC reduced its total electricity consumption by over 20 million kWh compared to 2012, which is equivalent to a reduction of 14,000 tonnes of carbon emissions. Additionally, ICC enhanced energy efficiency by deploying AI-driven optimisation and energy management for its air conditioning systems.
While LEED v5.0 sets higher standards for green buildings with emphasis in climate action, quality of life, and ecological conservation and restoration, SHKP has demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainability by aligning its operations in ICC with these rigorous standards. It underscores SHKP's broader efforts to develop resilient, environmentally responsible buildings that foster healthier communities.
Moving forward, SHKP remains focused on pioneering green building practices for a green and sustainable Hong Kong.
