CITIC Tower Achieves Final Platinum Rating under BEAM Plus EB V2.0 Comprehensive Scheme

CITIC Tower, under CITIC Pacific Properties, was awarded the Final Platinum rating under BEAM Plus Existing Buildings V2.0 Comprehensive Scheme for 2024 this November. This certification demonstrates CITIC Pacific Properties’ commitment to environmental management, facility operations and sustainable development, and recognises its contribution to Hong Kong's carbon neutrality goals and green building development.

CITIC Pacific Properties is continuously exploring and implementing various energy-saving solutions in CITIC Tower, including the upgrade and optimisation of air-conditioning, lighting and elevator systems. The optimisation completed in 2022 has enabled the building to reduce electricity consumption by over 35%, equivalent to an annual energy reduction of 1.7 million kWh. The central air-conditioning system overhaul in 2020 is particularly important. The installation of seven inverter air-conditioning units has significantly enhanced the building’s operational efficiency, and this project alone has made it possible to save 1.4 million kWh of CITIC Tower’s electricity consumption each year. Additionally, CITIC Tower has applied City University-certified iPaint patented coating technology to its rooftop. This innovative solution effectively reduces the building's surface temperature, thereby decreasing the demand for air-conditioning. It represents one of the many initiatives implemented to achieve carbon reduction goals.

The enhancement of the lighting system has also delivered remarkable results. CITIC Tower began the upgrading of public lighting with energy-efficient LEDs in 2021. With the installation of LED lighting in the car park, an annual electricity consumption of 55,000kWh can be reduced. Today, most public spaces in CITIC Tower are illuminated by LED lighting. The exterior festive lighting has been upgraded with a computer-controlled LED system, which allows the Company to save over HK$100,000 in electricity bills each year without comprising the festive lighting display effect.

CITIC Pacific Properties’ commitment to environmental protection has been driving its way forward to explore a variety of initiatives, including the implementation of solid waste recycling within the building and the community. In 2022, the Company recycled over 4.7 tonnes of paper, plastic and metal. The introduction of an automated food waste composting machine to the building in the following year further optimises its waste management. The composting machine has the capacity to process coffee grounds and tea leaves collected from CITIC Tower's tenants and neighbouring buildings in the Admiralty area. This recycling initiative has been extended to other commercial, industrial, and residential properties under CITIC Pacific Properties’ management, broadening the Company’s centralised food waste recycling network.

CITIC Pacific Properties has also achieved significant progress in indoor environmental quality. CITIC Tower features high-efficiency air filtration and regular air quality monitoring systems. In 2024, the Company upgraded its Building Management System (BMS), integrating various facilities like lighting and air-conditioning into a single system for more efficient monitoring and adjustment. This improvement in the building’s energy efficiency and working environment allows tenants to enjoy a healthy and comfortable workspace while also enhancing tenants' brand image and demonstrating their commitment to sustainability.

Looking ahead, CITIC Pacific Properties remains committed to exploring innovative environmental technologies and management approaches to further enhance energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions and achieve greater sustainability goals.
