One Island East

Trane Hong Kong’s latest project with Swire Properties Limited at One Island East (OIE) demonstrates its expertise in delivering innovative and sustainable climate solutions. OIE is a prominent commercial skyscraper located in Taikoo Place, Quarry Bay of Hong Kong. This 69-storey triple Grade-A office tower is a significant landmark in the eastern district of Hong Kong Island.

Trane was engaged to upgrade the client’s existing 15-year-old chiller system using seven highly efficient Trane^® CenTraVac^® Water-cooled Centrifugal Chillers with a combined capacity of 8,520 tons of refrigeration (TR). The upgrade has achieved remarkable energy savings, surpassing Swire Properties’ initial saving target of 700,000 kWh, while dramatically reducing OIE’s carbon footprint. 

The cutting-edge Trane chillers use an eco-friendly hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) refrigerant R514A with a negligible global warming potential (GWP) value of less than 2. These newly upgraded chillers also feature excellent performance, with full-load coefficient of performance (COP) values reaching up to 6.44, exceeding the standard rating by 9.15%. The part-load COPs were equally impressive, surpassing the statutory requirements by 18% to 20%. Moreover, leveraging low-pressure technology, Trane was able to minimise the risks of refrigerant leaks, further protecting the environment.

With the innovative CenTraVac^® Water-cooled Centrifugal Chiller solution employing the ultra-low GWP refrigerant R514A and one-stop service, Trane has not only met Swire Properties’ immediate needs for energy efficiency at OIE, but also successfully positioned this office building as a sustainable property, proudly supporting the client’s Sustainable Development 2030 Strategy.
