Transformation of the over-40-year-old Sun Hung Kai Centre to an Environmentally Friendly Commercial Building

Sun Hung Kai Properties has just launched a video highlighting the remarkable achievement of its headquarters, Sun Hung Kai Centre. With a history of over 40 years, the building has been awarded a green building certificate. Sun Hung Kai Centre has witnessed the development of the Wan Chai district and grown together with Hong Kong. To ensure optimum efficiency and to stay in line with the latest trends, the building has undergone retro-commissioning for its various systems. A smart building management system has also been introduced to save energy and reduce emissions. Since 2005, over 65 million kWh of electricity has been saved, resulting in an impressive reduction of 42,000 tonnes of carbon emissions.

The Group continues to monitor and enhance the environmental performance of its existing buildings. It is dedicated to enhancing sustainability and incorporating green features throughout the life cycle of the buildings, starting from the design and construction phases and extending to operations. As stipulated in the Group’s Sustainability Building Policy, it aims to achieve green building certifications for all new investment properties, in particular core commercial projects under development.
