Hactl Advocates for Menstrual Equity
Menstruation is a normal biological phenomenon experienced by every female. Yet, even in the 21st century, and in affluent cities like Hong Kong, menstruation remains a taboo. As a socially-responsible corporate, Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) has taken a step forward to become the lead sponsor of the “Hactl x Free Periods Hong Kong - Be My Buddy Buddy” project. Through this project, Hactl supports and collaborates with the charitable organisation, Free Periods Hong Kong, to build a menstruation-friendly society in Hong Kong.
In May and August this year, Hactl organised a series of exhibitions, talks, and documentary sharing about menstruation in Sham Shui Po and its SuperTerminal 1. These interactive activities aimed to break the taboo on menstruation, and allowed participants to learn about the knowledge and misunderstand surrounding menstruation. These exhibitions and talks have attracted the active participation of over 1,100 members of the public and Hactl staff.
In addition to organising educational activities, Hactl is committed to creating a gender-equal, friendly and inclusive working environment. To raise awareness on menstrual health and encourage its staff to show care to colleagues experiencing menstrual discomfort, the company now provides free menstrual products to its employees in need in women’s washrooms. It has also set up “Wellness Boxes” stocked with items for relieving menstrual discomfort, at frontline staff rest rooms and office pantries.
Hactl will continue to work with Free Periods Hong Kong in 2023-2024 to further promote period-friendly concepts and gender equality in schools and the wider community. This includes educational activities and a donation of 500 sets of “Buddy Buddy Gift Boxes” containing menstrual products and gifts to girls and women in need.
