Let’s Go Circular!

Sustainability is central to Sino Land’s vision of Creating Better Lifescapes and integral to its business and operations — from architectural planning, green property services and hotel operations to exploring innovative solutions to build a healthier and more sustainable community.

In addition to launching the Sustainability Vision 2030, unveiling the Decarbonisation Roadmap, setting Science-based Targets and pledging support to global calls-to-action like United Nations Global Compact, Business Ambition for 1.5ºC and Task Force on Climate-related Financial Closures, Sino Land is taking a further step to reduce carbon footprint by launching the circular economy platform, ‘Go Circular’. Giving a second life to unwanted materials, Sino Land seeks to transform waste into new opportunities, and the platform includes upcycling disposable materials into furniture; turning textiles such as towels, bed sheets and staff uniforms into new-generation fit-out materials as well as converting food waste into renewable energy.

Sino Land is a committed supporter of home-grown start-up, EcoBricks, which presents a breakthrough solution to upcycle all seven types of plastic, including mixed and composite plastic, into sustainable construction materials, presenting a viable circular economy solution to urban waste issues. EcoBricks were first introduced at Gold Coast Piazza by Castle Peak Bay, followed by application at Olympian City, upcycled from 14.6 tonnes of plastic. The solution has been applied at other suitable properties like The Fullerton Ocean Park Hotel Hong Kong, and widely promoted among tenants and customers in supporting plastic upcycling and circular economy.

The ‘waste less’ philosophy is also applied at Sino Land’s managed properties, including furniture crafted with upcycled materials, incorporating art with functionality and sustainability.  Recent examples include:

  • At Landmark South, Sino Land partnered with HIR Studio, a local architectural firm, to re-mould plastic waste into bench seating for office tenants and visitors.
  • In Lee Tung Avenue, Sino Land partnered with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University School of Design, to develop upcycled public benches for pedestrians and shoppers.

The Green Journey initiative was expanded to residential properties under Sino Land’s management in January 2022, engaging a wider audience to build a sustainable future together. Eco Market has also been staged for residents to sell second-hand items to give used items a second life.

Sino Land also engages colleagues to develop innovative recycling solutions in the workplace, while encouraging stakeholders to take part. Every year the company would organise the collection of mooncake boxes for recycling after the Mid-Autumn Festival, the upcycled Christmas trees and decoration campaign, and the recycling of lai see packets after the celebration of Lunar New Year through collection points at shopping malls, offices and residential properties.

Sino Land is committed to promoting a circular economy through working with different stakeholders and supporting start-ups by applying innovative solutions to sustainability and environmental issues. Together, we Create Better Lifescapes.
