Hysan Development Publishes Sustainability Report 2021 – Driving Change Together

Hysan Development Company Limited (“the Group”) has published its 16th Sustainability Report (“the Report”), covering the period from 1 January to 31 December 2021. Serving as a channel for communicating with the Group’s stakeholders, the Report reviews sustainability topics of material interest related to the Group’s headquarters and its portfolio in Hong Kong.

2021 was a year when the Group saw Hong Kong’s return to a partial sense of normality, following the upheavals of 2020. Under the theme “Driving Change Together”, the Report shows how 2021 was also a watershed year for the Group as a result of the substantial investments it has made both in its home market of Hong Kong and in Mainland China. Sustainability will be at the heart of these investment projects, with a special emphasis on community development.

During the year, the Group worked tirelessly to integrate its environmental, social and governance initiatives, which form the basis of its community business model. A sense of community creates connections based on shared values and interests. Recognising that Hysan cannot achieve this on its own, the Group partners closely with its stakeholders through regular dialogues, with the aim of building Lee Gardens together.

To maintain a liveable natural environment in Hysan’s communities, the Group continued to make environmental management, particularly decarbonisation, a core pillar of its corporate strategy and day-to-day operations. In 2021, the Group recorded a significant milestone in its sustainability journey with the inauguration of its Sustainable Finance Framework (“the Framework”), which expands the scope of its previous Green Finance framework. Under this framework, the Group will make every effort to develop the right pathway towards net-zero carbon. The Framework was reviewed by Sustainalytics, an independent environmental, social and governance research, ratings and analysis firm.

Improved to a four-star rating and received “Green Star” designation in the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (“GRESB”), as well as an “A” for public disclosure for the third year running

The Report was prepared in accordance with the disclosure references set out in the Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) Reporting Guide in Appendix 27 of the Main Board Listing Rules and Guidance published by The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited. The Report was independently verified by the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency.
