Swire Properties Launches Sustainable Development Report 2021, Doubles Down On Efforts to Fight Climate Change

Swire Properties recently launched its Sustainable Development (SD) Report 2021 and 2021 Highlights, which are available in both digital and print formats.

The report was prepared in accordance with the latest GRI Standards 2021 and the HKEX ESG Reporting Guide, and also incorporated the Company’s fourth set of climate-related financial disclosures as per TCFD recommendations.

Despite challenging conditions in the past few years, Swire Properties continues to integrate sustainability into every aspect of its business and pursue the goals under its SD 2030 Strategy. And while the Company’s efforts are now bearing fruit, it aims to do even more.

Key Highlights:

  • Global & Regional Recognition – Ranked 7th globally and No.1 in Asia on the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index; and topped the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index for the 4th consecutive year, maintaining an  “AAA” rating.

  • 1.5°C Science-Based Targets – In 2021, Swire Properties ramped up its climate ambitions and has become the first real estate developer in Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland to have their 1.5°C-aligned Science-Based Targets approved. The Company is on track to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

  • Renewable Energy  – Accelerated the adoption of renewable energy with Taikoo Hui in Guangzhou becoming its second mixed-use development to be powered by 100% renewable electricity, following Sino-Ocean Taikoo Li Chengdu in 2020. The Company now uses close to 40% renewable energy across its Chinese Mainland portfolio.

  • Health & Wellness – Key focus areas for the Company, the all-new Taikoo Li Qiantan in Shanghai is a great showcase of Swire Properties’ investment in these spaces. This retail hub revolves around encouraging wellbeing and enhancing social resilience, and is the first shopping mall in the world to obtain WELL Core Platinum certification.

  • Partnership With Key Stakeholders – The Company recognises the importance of encouraging stakeholders to work together to achieve the 1.5°C goal and greater impact across the board. As such Swire Properties launched its “Fighting Climate Change, We’re All In” campaign to inspire key parties. What’s more, the Company was principal partner for the Advancing Net Zero Ideas Competition (collaboration with the Hong Kong Green Building Council) to explore pioneering solutions for future-ready net-zero buildings.

Moving forward, Swire Properties will continue to push the boundaries to achieve the ultimate goal of net-zero carbon emissions. More importantly, through its SD initiatives, the Company will further its Placemaking efforts to build vibrant and sustainable communities – where people can thrive – around the world.
