Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited is Setting the Future in Motion

Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) has published its Sustainability Report 2021, showcasing its concerted programme of sustainability actions over the past year.

Hactl is an integral part of the aviation industry: a business often considered as one of the greatest contributors to climate change. It was Hactl’s fierce determination to play their own part in mitigating the aviation sector's impact, and a desire to lead others to do likewise, which inspired their now well-established Green Terminal programme - whose ambition is to create the most sustainable, environmentally-friendly air cargo handling operation in the world.

The report features the environmental, social and governance achievements, ongoing focus and plans, and highlights its human-centric approach in practicing and advancing corporate sustainability in the community.

Environmental highlights include a 38% absolute carbon reduction compared to 2015, and the positive result of 99% and 95% plastic and paper recycling rate respectively. Other than that, the office refurbishment project has achieved a Platinum rating under BEAM Plus Interiors V1.0 in recognition of the creation of a cultural, aesthetic and sustainable working environment in the office refurbishment project. In the coming years, the company plans to expand on several initiatives on carbon, waste, circular economy and innovation, which covers its pledge to achieve Net Zero Carbon by 2050, with a midpoint target of 55% absolute emission reduction by 2035 with the strategic partners of the Hong Kong International Airport.

Employees’ health and safety should also be a priority given the nature of the business. The strong occupational health and safety focus in Hactl has been publicly recognised with no less than four successes in the Hong Kong Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Award in 2021. The company achieved top honours in the Safety Management System Award (Other Industries) and OSH Promotion Award categories, in recognition of the exceptional health and safety culture along with the strong policy of educating staff and partners on workplace safety. The company also secured Silver in the OSH Enhancement Program Award and Bronze in the Occupational Rehabilitation Award.

Hactl believes it is significant to share the achievements and experiences as part of the global movement to inspire sustainable business behaviour. Moving forward, the company will keep joining hands with the employees, business partners customers, and peers to put sustainability at the head of their every business agenda.
