Experience of Green Building Development in Taiwan

Taiwan has been promoting green building practice since 1998, the Green Building Evaluation System (EEWH System) takes into account the specific requirement of local environment and climatic condition. It focuses on four perspectives: ecology, energy saving, waste reduction and health. In Taiwan, it is mandatory for all public buildings to obtain green building certification, and existing buildings are encouraged to adopt green building practice when they are redeveloped.

Bio : 
Hsien-Te Lin received his Doctoral degree in Tokyo University, Japan on Dynamic Building Energy Simulation and Green Building Design. He accepted the prize of best annual paper of the Air Conditioning and Sanitary Society of Japan in 1987. He had created a simplified Index ENVLOAD for building energy which become the National Building Energy Conservation Code of Taiwan in 1995. He also developed a Green Building Evaluation System, called EEWH, which is regarded as the governmental standard of Green Building Design and the most important tool of Sustainable Building Policy in Taiwan. He is not only a very productive researcher but also a famous writer of popular books on environmental policy, energy conservation, vernacular architecture and green building
