First Year Plan For 2010

In the first year, HKGBC will devote its energies to initiating the market transformation to green building. The 2010 plan focuses on five key areas:

1. Green Building Certification and Promulgation

  • Develop a distinctive building environmental assessment method for the Hong Kong environment by enhancing BEAM to include desirable features of CEPAS, and gain international recognition of this unique method
  • Launch the BEAM Accredited Practitioner Scheme and operate associated training courses and assessments
  • Maintain a list of BEAM Accredited Practitioners for public enquiries

2. Influencing and Advising the Government on the Drive for Green Building Growth

  • Influence the Government, public bodies and other major employers to adopt environmental protecting facilities for both new and retrofitted buildings
  • Request the Government to take the lead in the market transformation towards a sustainable built environment
  • Work with the Government to conduct assessments on government buildings, and improve their building environment performance

3. Leading the Community to Adopt Green Building Practices

  • Organise Green Building Award Programs with the Professional Green Building Council
  • Educate the public on energy efficiency of building operations to reduce energy consumption and waste
  • Encourage the use of green building products, such as substitutes for tungsten light bulbs
  • Developing relevant statistics on carbon emissions, energy consumption, etc., in relation to green building practices

4. Protecting the Environment in an Urban Context

  • Identify pragmatic approaches to plan and build environmental protecting facilities
  • Establish a common vision for an eco-city within the local community

5. Reducing Carbon Emissions

  • Set local standards for carbon emissions from buildings which may go beyond the minimum requirements of relevant legislation, and carry out pilot projects to implement these standards
