To tackle our ambitious array of goals for the HKGBC, we need an effective strategy, the spread of education, innovative research and development, and clear and direct promotion and publicity.

These priorities are addressed through proactive standing committees, each empowered to drive a separate aspect of the journey towards a green city.  The committees advise, direct resources, feedback, guide the creation and coordination of effective strategy, research, education and the promotion of green buildings.

  • Membership, Events and Marketing Committee
Building a strong body of members, promoting the HKGBC and nurturing the green building industry will facilitate many of the HKGBC’s goals.  Through strong membership, relevant events and publicity, HKGBC will foster demand for green buildings and green building products, and strengthen community awareness.  The Membership, Events and Marketing Committee also spreads awareness among the public and industry on the benefits of the HKGBC as a means to activate a market transformation towards sustainability.
  • Green Labelling Committee
Promoting accurate labelling is essential for understanding, tracking and improving Hong Kong’s built environment. The Green Labelling Committee seeks to promote industry developed labels, such as BEAM Plus, as it develops into Hong Kong’s integrated building environmental performance assessment scheme.  It will also foster the uptake of labelling of new and existing buildings throughout Hong Kong.  The GLC will keep enhancing the Green Labelling Scheme – BEAM Plus by adopting more industry recognized assessment methodologies, to expand the scope of assessment onto the interior design, etc. The GLC will continue to foster BEAM practitioners who help the market transformation into a green built environment for our community.
  • Industry Standards and Professional Practices Committee
Working with industry to create standards and qualify practitioners and experts, the HKGBC will develop a distinctive building environmental assessment method for the Hong Kong environment by enhancing BEAM Plus, and gain international recognition for this unique method.  The Industry Standards and Professional Practices Committee will also work to launch accreditation schemes and training courses and assessments, as well as list qualified practitioners of green building practices.
  • Education and Research Committee
Research into efficiency and sustainability is advancing around the world. However, unique insights are essential to Hong Kong’s sub-tropic built environment.  The Education and Research Committee directs and coordinates research relevant to Hong Kong.  It also works to promote community and industry awareness on how people’s actions affect the built environment, and can contribute to positive change.
  • Finance and Administration Committee
To ensure strict operating standards and to maximise the resources of the HKGBC and its members in achieving its mission, the Finance and Administration Committee oversees and manages relevant HKGBC activities.
