HKGBC Nomination for 2011 WorldGBC Government Leadership Awards:
"Building Design to Foster a Quality and Sustainable Built Environment"
In an effort to highlight exceptional local policies that accelerate green buildings around the world, the World Green Building Council has organised the 2011 Government Leadership Awards for Excellence in City Policy for Green Building at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Durban, South Africa. The awards acknowledge international best practice in city-level government policy for green building initiatives and recognise green buildings as an important means to reduce carbon emissions. The awarded cities are:

A total of 22 cities have made the nominations. The HKGBC has nominated the recent Hong Kong government initiative "Building Design to Foster a Quality and Sustainable Built Environment", which has been effective since April 2011. Among various benefits, the initiative notably accelerates the adoption of BEAM Plus which has approached 100 registrations since the launch around its first year. The Hong Kong initiative is included in the publication of 2011 WorldGBC Government Leadership Awards (p.24).
