Announcement - Appointment of New Executive Director

The Hong Kong Green Building Council

Mr Kevin Edmunds, seconded from the Business Environment Council, who has been Executive Director of the HKGBC since its inauguration in 2009, is leaving us at the end of August. We are very grateful for his contributions to HKGBC’s establishment and to our work during this initial period, and we wish him every success in his new career.

I have great pleasure in announcing the appointment of Mr Ronald Chin as HKGBC’s new Executive Director effective 1st September 2011.

Mr Chin comes from a very successful background in energy efficiency and sustainable building work in the public sector for over 30 years. In the mid 1990’s he was the inaugural Chief Engineer of the Energy Efficiency Office of the Electrical & Mechanical Services Department initiating the work in building energy codes, energy labelling, building energy audits and end-use energy database for Hong Kong. Prior to his retirement in 2009, he was an Assistant Director, heading the Building Services Branch, in the Architectural Services Department. Throughout his career he has been very active in major local professional associations as well as local branches of major international professional institutions, and has also served as an adjunct professor in the Building Services Engineering Department of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Mr Chin has recently been awarded the Gold Medal of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers in the UK for his distinguished professional achievements.

I am confident that with his ample professional and management experience in the buildings industry particularly focusing in green or sustainable buildings, Mr Chin would be able to provide dynamic leadership to the secretariat as well as to the challenging work of the HKGBC in producing green and sustainable built environment for the benefit of our community.
