Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC) and BEAM Society has lined up with the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA) to carry out the examination sessions on BEAM Pro since May 2010.

Become the BEAM Professionals (BEAM Pro)

Step 1: Complete the one-day BEAM Professionals (BEAM Pro) Training
Step 2: Attend the BEAM Professionals Examination to be carried out by HKEAA
Step 3: Register as the BEAM Pro if you passed the BEAM Pro Examination

To retain your BEAM Pro status, you are required to take CPD seminars or courses, which 15 CPD hours would be required per year.


The Examination

The Examination is “open book”; however, candidates attend the examination only allowed to bring their respective identification documents into the examination room. No papers, books, food, beverages, bags (including pocketbooks and purses), or electronic devices (including calculators and cellular phones) are allowed in the examination room. HKGBC and BEAM Society will provide the BEAM Plus Manual for both New Buildings and Existing Buildings at the Examination Centre. Candidates are not allowed to take away anything from the examination centre after they finish the examination.

The Examination will be carried out in 2 hours; and candidates are required to complete 100 multiple-choice questions, with a focus on practical application as well as theory. A mark of 75% must be achieved to pass the examination.

To prepare for the Examination

We strongly encourage you to read over the BEAM Plus Manual for New Buildings and Existing Buildings, as well as the training materials before the examination.

Examination Cost

The Examination is compulsory and the Fee is bundled to the Training Package, which the candidate should have made payment before the BEAM Pro Training.  Details can be referred to BEAM Pro Training.

Passing the Examination

Upon finishing the BEAM Pro Examination, candidates will receive a provisional examination result slip indicating whether the candidate has passed the examination.  Candidates who passed the examination should make formal registration through the page of (http://www.hkgbc.org.hk/eng/beamproregis.aspx) at HKGBC website.  Upon receiving the registration from the candidates, HKGBC BEAM Pro Secretariat will send the following to the candidates’ email account:

From January 2011 onwards, Candidates will receive the detailed examination result via email in about 4 weeks after the examination date.  Candidates who passed the examination will be notified to make formal registration as the BEAM Pro; and they will receive the following:

- BEAM Pro Certificate, (Only e-cert is available)

- the user ID and password (For login to Intranet for downloading BEAM Plus templates)

Retake the Examination

Candidates who fail the examination can re-sit the examination after payment of an additional fee each time. The fee for re-sit the examination is HK$2,500 for Members* only (and HK$3,500 for others) per examination session.  Payment must be received not less than one week before the new date.  Any candidate who is absent from the examination due to medical reason or personal issue is eligible to re-sit the examination subject to the same additional payment.

Appeal to Examination

BEAM Pro Examination is developed in a form of multiple-choice type of examination. Candidates are required to complete 100 multiple-choice questions in two hours through a computer system; and the examination will be conducted by Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA) on behalf of Hong Kong Green Building Council and BEAM Society.

Similar to most of the worldwide open examinations, “Appeal” to the Multiple-choice type of examination is NOT applicable. However, we do accept the “Appeal to Process and Procedure”, for example, delay in allowing candidate enter the examination centre, computer glitch, unclear instructions for the examination, etc.

A nominal fee of HK$500 (non-refundable) will be charged per Appeal Case; and the payment should be made by cheque payable to “BEAM Society” and send to the following address:

Appeal Process

Step 1 Submit the Appeal to BEAM Society Within 10 working days upon receiving the Examination Result
Step 2 Fill in the Form (Click here to download the form) for submission
Step 3 Send the Form together with the cheque (details state in the above) to BEAM Sciety
Step 4 HKGBC and BEAM Society will review the case and get back to the applicant Within 20 working days upon receiving Appeal Application
